This is an online portfolio of the marketing projects and freelance articles I’ve worked on, and my ongoing writing for The NewsRun.

Current Project

I launched The NewsRun in 2018, an email newsletter that provides smart, clear and digestible breakdowns of Pakistan’s top news. Most of the content I have written between 2018 and 2021 has been for The NewsRun, including interviews with talented and innovative Pakistanis , special reports that do deep dives into a specific news topic, and daily email newsletters that summarize the day’s biggest stories. The NewsRun has been featured in Sunday MagazineMeraki Design HousePakCordDear Brown Parents, the American Pakistan Foundation, and Nieman Lab.

Creative Side Project

I wrote and self-published a children’s book called Leena’s Pouncy Puppy. The book was illustrated by Tehreem Iqbal. It is being sold on Amazon and the Children’s Literary Festival website. The book was also featured in The Daily Times.

Writing Style

I like to simplify complex and dense content so the writing is easier to read and understand. I aim to be concise and to-the-point. I believe in the “smart brevity” approach - writing that is smart and brief at the same time.

Current Project - The NewsRun

  • The NewsRun Website & Daily Email Newsletter

I designed and wrote the copy for The NewsRun’s website. I share the daily email newsletter on the website to give potential new subscribers a sample of what they would get in their inbox if they sign up.

I co-write the daily newsletter, which is e-mailed to thousands of subscribers every weekday morning.

  • Special Report: Motorway Rape Case, Public Outrage, and How You Can Help

Ways you can tackle the mindset, societal norms, and systemic failures that contribute to rape culture in Pakistan.

  • Special Report: Exclusive interview with Julie’s lawyer, Hassan Niazi

Julie has been vocal about the plight of Pakistan’s trans community, receiving both support and criticism.

  • The NewsRun 'Thinking Big' Interview Series

I’ve written and published the ‘Thinking Big’ interview series for The NewsRun. As a part of this initiative, I interview talented individuals who represent Pakistan's amazing potential. I launched this interview series to share insights from Pakistanis who are doing visionary work, driving positive change, and making a significant impact.

  • The NewsRun Social Media Promo

I wrote the copy for this Instagram graphic to highlight The NewsRun’s core mission and purpose. I also incorporated the brand’s font and color scheme to maintain brand consistency. I designed the graphic myself on CANVA.

  • The NewsRun Social Media Promo

I wrote the copy for this Instagram graphic to highlight The NewsRun’s feature as an email newsletter, and benefit as a news platform that gives busy people an opportunity to read the news in 5 minutes. • The NewsRun Social Media Promo

I wrote the copy for this Instagram graphic to highlight two benefits of The NewsRun - it helps people keep up with the news from Pakistan and it’s free of charge. This is especially targeted to overseas Pakistanis. I also incorporated the brand’s font and color scheme to maintain brand consistency. I designed the graphic myself on CANVA.

Content For Social Media Promos & Campaigns

  • CARE Foundation Pakistan Social Media Awareness Campaign - Pakistan Day

Developed #DreamForPakistan, a day-long social media campaign that ran across various platforms (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook). The campaign was created to raise awareness of CARE’s mission and increase the number of social media followers. Online users were encouraged to retweet, hashtag and share the following image on their social media pages in honor of Pakistan Day. The point was to commemorate a patriotic day while emphasizing the importance of education. I wrote the copy and came up with the concept. A colleague was responsible for graphic design work. All colleagues played a role in pushing the campaign out on their own social media accounts.

  • CARE Foundation Pakistan Social Media Fundraising Campaign - World Teacher’s Day

Launched a weeklong social media campaign, #ICAREtoTeach, which was designed to encourage appreciation for teachers on World Teachers Day. The campaign was also an initiative to raise funds for teachers at one of CARE’s schools. The funds would ensure that all teachers had the appropriate resources, equipment and training to provide a high quality education to CARE’s students. I wrote the copy and sponsored the post on Facebook for a week. A colleague was responsible for graphic design work. The campaign raised PKR 150,000 (USD 1434.37) in online donations.

  • CARE Foundation Pakistan Social Media Awareness Campaign - International Women’s Day

Developed the day-long 2016 International Women’s Day campaign, #WomenRisingStrong. The campaign was primarily created to engage current and prospective Facebook followers. People were asked to share The CARE Foundation Empowerment Badge with the women in their lives who inspire them. The badge congratulated women for being among the #WomenRisingStrong. I wrote the content and came up with the concept. A colleague was responsible for graphic design work. All colleagues played a role in pushing the campaign out on their own Facebook pages.

CARE Foundation Pakistan Social Media Fundraising Campaign - World Literacy Day

I wrote the copy and selected the photos for CARE Foundation Pakistan’s #MakeLibrariesFunAgain campaign leading into World Literacy Day 2016. A colleague produced and edited the above video. The purpose of the campaign was to raise money for a library restoration project at one of CARE Pakistan’s schools.
